Some info for guests about how Airbnb reviews work

We'll start with the main takeaway: we hope if you had a nice time and would want to stay with us again that you will consider giving us a 5 star review in the "overall" category.
That does NOT mean we don't want feedback or that we don't think we can improve--there is always room to do better and we strive to constantly improve our offering. And we absolutely don't believe anyone, us included, should just get a 5 star review by default. We truly hope our effort and care came across during your stay. We work very hard to provide of all the amenities you could want and to provide a clean and comfortable place at every price point. We appreciate you choosing to stay with us!
But the way the Airbnb rating system works, even 4 stars is considered a "fail".
4.8 average is our requirement to be a "Superhost"
4.7 is the MINIMUM expectation to even stay on the platform (yes, we think it's crazy too)
4.5 results in a "warning" from Airbnb that we can be de-listed
4.3 stars or below for a certain period of time results in listing suspension
What that means is every 4 star (and especially a 1, 2, or 3 star) review in the "overall" category puts us at risk of no longer being able to offer this place for rent.

We realize it's a dumb system and I think 4 (or even 3) stars should mean things went just fine. Unfortunately we have no control over the way the system works. We strongly recommend if you have time that you reach out to Airbnb to express how bad of a system this is. We hate having to send this uncomfortable and imposing message to guests, but we feel we had no choice due to the high number of well-intentioned 4-star reviews from new users or those who don't know about how the system works.
No matter what we truly do appreciate you letting us know during your stay or even after whatever we could have done to improve and take it to heart. We absolutely don't leave retaliatory reviews and give our guests 5 stars across the board for virtually every stay--you don't need to worry about us messing up your rating for letting us know about issues.
